Barbetta Stannard

April 25, 1946 – June 4, 2023

Barbetta Wall Stannard passed away peacefully at her home in Naples, FL after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her husband, Paul Stannard, and family.

Christened Barbara after her mother when she was born on April 25, 1946, she quickly became known as Barbetta, a name that has often generated conversation. Barbetta was raised in Hamden, CT, but followed her husband and high school sweetheart to St. Louis, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Louisville before settling in Anoka, MN to brave the winters and raise their family. Barbetta was an elementary school teacher until she stopped to raise her own two children.

Barbetta always put others before herself and during her entire life she continued to pour that boundless generosity, selfless patience, creativity and caring into her family, friends and anyone who had the honor to have even a brief chat with her. Barbetta never just put in a coffee order, she wanted to know how each and every person she encountered along the way was faring. We wish she had written a book; we will always keep those stories close.

Barbetta always had a true sense of adventure which was fueled in the early days by exploring the new cities she found herself living in and then later as she and Paul traveled to far off places – Africa, Antarctica, China, New Zealand and many more. She was always thinking about their next trip, but in true Barbetta fashion, the person who she sat next to on the airplane was just as interesting as the destination!

Barbetta is survived by her one and only love of 61 years, Paul; her siblings Mary Jane (Tom) O’Neil and William (Carrie) Wall; her children Kersten Stannard (Jeffrey Panzo) and Garrick (Lauren) Stannard; her five grandchildren, Ryan, Zoe, Nora, Gavin and Justin, seven nieces and nephews and many, many dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research (https://events.lustgarten.org/barbettastannard) or Avow Foundation for Hospice Care (avowcares.org). A Celebration of Life will be planned for later this summer in Minnesota.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023 from 4:00PM – 6:00PM at Naples Funeral Home, located at 3107 Davis Blvd, Naples, FL 34104.
