L.J. Randall, 72, of Naples, FL, passed away peacefully in his home on June 10, 2024.  Despite a challenging battle with cancer, Randy faced each day with a positive outlook, focused on connection with friends and family, and never lost his spirited humor. Until the end of his life, Randy was playing air guitar surrounded by his favorite music and his favorite people. 

Randy was born in 1951 in St. Paul, MN to Madalynne (“Mady”) Moore Moss and Loane Jackson Randall and had been a resident of Naples, FL since 1970. Randy graduated from Rollins College in 1974 and made Naples his permanent home shortly thereafter, where he married Caroline Holmes Randall. 

Randy’s ingenuity, lightning-fast humor, and inquisitive mind set him apart. Since 1989, Randy has owned and run Grill & Fill, which continually offered him opportunities to be resourceful and utilize his innovation and dexterity. He dearly loved the Grill & Fill “shop,” where his brilliant problem-solving skills and creativity were well used. He loved exploring the inner-workings of things. He could always be found tinkering with something or inventing something and was the world’s-greatest ‘fix it man.’ Randy could, quite literally, fix anything. 

Randy’s enthusiastic love of hot weather and sunshine meant he was rarely found indoors. He found happiness and fulfillment in boating and fishing and owned a boat, the “M&M,” with his stepfather Verne W. Moss. If you were ever looking for Randy on a Tuesday, for most of his adult life, he would be found on the M&M, fishing with Verne, in the waters off of Naples’ coast. 

Randy had a deep affection for plants and the environment and was a member of the Naples Botanical Garden. He had a bench erected there in memory of his late sister, Ann. 

Later in life, Randy found love with Carmen Randall, whom he married in 2003. They spent years together cultivating plants, swimming in the pool, watching birds, sharing wine and laughter, and traveling to Paraguay. Randy’s love of plants bloomed (he’d love the pun!) in his later years as he poured energy into his orchids and into creating a backyard oasis that brought him nightly joy. He found immense fulfillment when sharing his oasis and his love of interesting things with his grandson, Rowan Randall Lolli. As an inventor of sorts, Randy loved to create toys for Rowan; the joy he experienced when sharing his home-crafted toys with Rowan was palpable. 

Randy is predeceased by his parents Mady Moore Moss and Loane Jackson Randall, his stepfather Verne W. Moss, who was an influential man in his life, and his sister Ann Katharine Randall. Randy is survived by his wife Carmen, his three children Ashley Emmons (Dale) of Raleigh, NC, Nicholas Randall of Durango, CO, and Hadley Lolli (Dan) of Naples, FL, and his grandson Rowan Lolli. 

The family will receive friends at 10:00am on Sunday June 23 at Naples Funeral Home, located at 3107 Davis Boulevard, Naples, FL, with a memorial service beginning at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice. The family has entrusted care and services to The Beachwood Society and Naples Funeral Home of Naples Florida and thanks them for their services.
