I am gutted, Ty and I had been in regular communication even before they moved to Naples. She’s the finest person. A true friend and so humble. Condolences to her family – will keep you all in my prayers.

From Rev. Rose H. McCall, former AJM Board Member 2005-2010
A sad announcement in the Pageant Community… Alabama’s first Black State Titleholder for AMERICA’S Junior Miss, who went on to win the National Title, has passed. I got a chance to meet her the last year I served on the State Board. An amazing pointe dancer, she also competed at the Miss Alabama Pageant during her college days.
My condolences to her family and friends.

My condolences to Jon, Emma, Lila and family / friends. Ty was well known in our community with her infectious smile, sisterhood, volunteering, giving back in tremendous ways and hosting memorable parties with delicious food. Her presence will be missed and we will cherish her memories and legacy. Ty I dedicate this poem to you:
Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

It is with great sadness we said good bye to Ty on this earth. She was a loving, energetic, intelligent, daughter, friend, mother and wife. We considered her like she was one of our daughters. She was an exceptional person. We are praying for her family and all that knew her.

I’ve known Tyrenda since she was a little girl. Her mother Sharona Williams and I worked together at Parisians in Birmingham. Later, my college roommate and his wife were Tyrenda’s host family at Junior Miss in Mobile, Alabama.

Years later I ran into Ty and Jon at the Newark Airport, and Ty had become the beautiful and accomplished woman I knew she would be.

Much love to John, Ticely and Sherona.

Our hearts have been so heavy with the news of Tyrenda’s passing. Our prayers and deepest condolences are with Jon, Emma, Lila, and both of the extended Williams’ and Reed families during this unimaginable loss. I met Ty three years ago in Naples and we became fast friends. We bonded over being new transplants to town and we shared a hometown connection to Alabama. Our lives were busy raising children and working, but we always made time to catch up over lunch or coffee at Ty’s favorite local spot, Kunjani. I will miss Ty dearly, but I feel so fortunate to have been able to call her a friend and to have been gifted with her megawatt smile, infectious laugh, tight embraces and purely joyous energy. I wish Jon, Emma and Lila, along with all of the family and friends that she leaves behind, comfort and peace in knowing that she was a woman of unwavering faith and is now in heaven in the arms of the Lord. Tyrenda Williams-Reed, you gave love, you are loved and you will never be forgotten.

Ty was such a beautiful and incredible woman. I met her through a dear friend that worked with both of us at ABC news in New York. She was intelligent, tenacious, kind and lovely inside and out–a precious individual. May her memory be a beautiful blessing, and may the Lord give comfort and peace to her husband and children. Heaven gained a lovely angel ❤️️ a darling spirit.

I’m stunned and saddened to learn of Tyrenda’s death. She was a successful and loved member of the debate team that I coached at Vestavia Hills High School. She was bright, qualifying to debate at the National Tournament of Champions, and articulate, a simply outstanding communicator. She was also a humble and charming young woman. She left beautiful prints on her path. My condolences to all her family, especially to Jerona and Tycely.

Jon, my thoughts and prayers to you and your children. I am so sorry for you to hear this. I am so glad to have had the great pleasure to work with Ty for a few years about 8 years ago and get to know Jon and her beautiful children. Ty was a bundle of energy and positivity. It was hard not to smile when working with. My heart goes out to Jon and the kids. She will be missed, but I also know that in her way too short a time here, she left a mark and many, many people will remember her.

They say God wants the best of us, so I guess that’s why he took Ty too soon – because she was among the very best of us. Her physical beauty was matched by an extraordinary inward light that radiated outward. Everyone could see this within ten seconds of talking to her. She was truly a unique and gifted woman. When our world desperately needs more beautiful souls in it like Ty, I can’t understand why He took her away from us. But she herself said that “my faith does not require my understanding,” and I know she would want us to hang on to those words right now. May God watch over her family and give them peace and strength.

My heart has been broken with the loss of beautiful Ty. I was fortunate to be Lila’s teacher the previous school year and developed a friendship with Ty outside of school that supported a love for Jesus Christ. Our sisterhood in our great Savior, Jesus, was expressed in prayer for our community, schools, and country. She was a beacon of light and hope in our fallen world. I admired her enthusiasm for life, love for her family, and most of all for her devotion and love for Jesus Christ. She was generous with gifts, positivity, and lit up the room wherever she was with her incredible smile. My heart goes out to the Reed family. Jon, Emma, and Lila, I pray the Holy Spirit comforts and provides the peace, grace, and mercy you will all need to move forward. May God bless you all.

The members of First Congregational Church in Birmingham, Alabama, grieve with the Williams-Reed family in the loss of a beautiful spirit. Tyrenda was one of the early instructors of our church’s Creative Angels liturgical dancers. Not only was she a gifted dancer, but she was warm, wise and encouraging to the young persons in her charge. May she rest in peace and power, and may her family be comforted by the fact that she shone a bright and ongoing light in the lives of many.
