My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family today. It was a joy and pleasure to work with Ralph and I will never forget the warmth his smile gave me every time I saw Ralph. I was lucky enough to work with Ralph and got a chance to see what a great man he was.
I was working for Fluor when I met Ralph around 1998 when Bechtel and Fluor were in a joint venture for a project in Canada. We were like two long-lost brothers seeing each other again. The next couple of years Ralph would call me and tell me that I needed to come to Bechtel. Ralph would even call me from Singapore. I finally when to work in November of 2000. When I meet someone that I’m close to, I always give them a nickname and I called Ralph “Pilgrim”.
When Ralph would come to Sugarland to visit, he would always drop by my office. I bought a water pistol and when Ralph would walk into my office, I would get my water pistol and give him a few squirts. We would both just die laughing.
I still have the water pistol in my desk drawer today and every time I see it; I’ll just start thinking about Ralph and start laughing. Then I would send an email or call to check and see how he was doing.
I talked to Ralph early this year about flying to Naples for a few days for a good visit. I was planning to call Ralph this week and then I received a note from Tony Dragone telling me of Ralph’s passing. I’m heartbroken that I didn’t get to see my good friend one more time.
My wife is at the chapel today lighting a candle for Ralph. I’ll be lighting a candle for Ralph on mas Saturday and will be having a mass said in Ralph’s honor.
I will miss him dearly and wanted to extend my sympathies to you and the family.
