Harriet Kirkland peacefully passed away in Naples, Florida on Tuesday, June 6 surrounded by her loving children. Born and raised in Chicago, she attended Senn High School and Lake Forest College, where she met her lifetime love of 64 years, John. A devoted mother of 4, Harriet led an active life raising her family in Arlington Heights with summers in Lake Geneva. Fondly called, “Big Mama,” though small in stature, led by example instilling strong values and the love of family. Her family dinners, elaborate holiday celebrations and festive parties with music and dancing became family traditions. Competitive game nights and Rummikub competitions, which she reigned as champion until age 95, will be an everlasting legacy.
Harriet leaves behind her loving children: Karen Lazos, Kevin (Linda) Kirkland, Bob Kirkland, Melissa (Greg) Glyman; her cherished grandchildren: Kristina Lazos, Nick Lazos, Katie (Ben)
Romenesko, Liz Kirkland, Johnny (Jessica) Glyman, Allie (Andrew) Machoski, Peter Glyman, Grace Glyman and adored Great Grandchildren: Emma Romenesko, Murphy Glyman. She is preceded by her husband, John Kirkland and son-in-law, John Lazos The memory of our dear mother and friend will live in our hearts forever. We love you.
