February 10, 1948 – May 9, 2023

John “JC” Calabria Naples – John (JC) Calabria passed away on May 9th at the age of 75. John is survived by the love of his life, Dawn, his wife and best friend of 40 years and their beloved dog, Scruffy. He will be in the hearts of his sister, Joanne Carpenter, his nephews Andrew Nadolny, Kevin Nadolny and wife Tomoko. Also to be remembered by a great niece and nephew, Miho and Ken, as well as his brother-in-law Robert Roda, his wife Sally and their son Bryan, his wife Kristin and great niece, Paige. JC was born in Rochester, New York. After graduating from Florida State on a golf scholarship, JC went on to play the PGA Tour. After the tour he returned to Rochester and became the Head Golf Professional at Brook-Lea Country Club. In 1993, JC moved to Naples, FL to become the Director of Golf at Naples National Golf Club. After leaving Naples National, JC played on the PGA TOUR Champions. He then became Director of Golf at Tuscany Reserve and later at Fiddler’s Creek, all the while continuing his competitive play in the South Florida Section of the PGA. Golf was not only JC’s career, but his passion. He took both pride and so much pleasure in mentoring young pros and staff about their games, career choices and also the opportunities and obligations of their vocation. He also made every effort to enhance his members’ enjoyment of the game every chance he could. His mentoring often came with written tips for his playing partners to try after a round was over. JC retained his impressive playing skills throughout the years, some evidence was his ability to play in 14 “majors” (including senior events). In fact, a British reporter interviewed JC at the US Open in 1995 and told him that according to BBC’s records, he was the first club pro in modern times to have played in the US Open in three consecutive decades. His greatest joy was spent playing golf with the members at Grey Oaks. He was truly the happiest when he was there. Often described by many as a “humble man, gentleman and teacher” JC will also be remembered as a great golfer and an even better person. He will be missed on and off the course. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to Pilots To The Rescue: donate@pilotstotherescue.org or call 212-404-6936. Arrangements by: Naples Funeral Home, Naples, FL.

John Calabria was the “Pro” … had the pleasure to work for him at Brook-Lea from late70’s to 1986. He was a lot of fun to be around and we shared a lot of good times – he is rounding out a foresome with Oscar and G Vowell. He could always be found on the course – playing with members or pounding balls. Love the Pro! Mike Kelly
