It is rare indeed to find such an upbeat person as Bill Beverly. First meeting at the Naples Bath and Tennis Club decades ago, we struck up a friendship based on mutual respect and tennis. Bill taught tennis with a zeal that matched his personality, and treated all he encountered with respect and friendship. Best, he was just plain fun to be around, with legendary stories spanning any number of subjects. Put a microphone in his hands in front of a crowd, and he never failed to acknowledge those who mentored him and shaped his life. We were all fortunate to have known and learned from Bill Beverly.

Phil and I were sad to hear of Bill’s passing. We first met Bill in 1998 when he was the tennis pro at Sterling Oaks in North Naples. Bill built the tennis program at Sterling Oaks from the ground up and the program today has over 300 members. He was the reason we bought our home in Sterling Oaks He knew everyone’s name and always took the time to holler a hello to you no matter where he saw you.He loved organizing event for club members, announcing the winners and passing out the prizes. He always made the tennis and events so much fun. He will be missed Lyndia and Phil Snyder

Bill was a great mentor and friend. He loved the game of tennis, and inspired everyone around him. Full of energy, Bill was at his best working with kids. He instilled confidence in them and they loved him for it. At the end of each class when the kids were leaving, they would always wait until Bill had a pause in what he was doing to say…”By Bill.” Those kids grew up, and will always remember what he meant to them. Love to you Bill. You will be missed. Gregg, Georgia and QiQi Marie Anderson.

Bill came to see us many times in his last couple of years and he will never be forgotten. Bill was a very kind and thoughtful man and was a joy to spend time with. From my understanding he was the “Godfather” of tennis in Naples and he worked with many famous players from around the country. Bill also served his Beloved Country in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive in 1968. Bill loved to laugh and tease and will be missed by us. Rest in Peace my Friend! Bill, Darlene and Barbara

Bill was one of the first people in tennis I met when I came to Naples. I’m sure that a lot of you would agree Bill would make you feel and believe you were better than you were not just in tennis but in life. One of the first encounters I had with Bill after our initial meeting was an event at Naples Bath and Tennis. Bill as we all know was not shy and ver charismatic. He screamed down the hill for all the world to hear Mike Raymond I need you. I didn’t know whether to hide or just be excited he remembered who I was. I played a lot of tennis with Bill and another tennis legend we lost in Naples Tommy Manring. Bill absolutely loved life and the game. I agree with Curly certainly for me Bill was Mr Tennis in Naples. The last time I saw Bill in typical fashion he said I love you man. Which triggered me to say don’t you ever die Bill Beverly don’t you ever die. He gave that wink that we all know and he said I didn’t have to worry about that he was gonna live forever. The honest truth is even our heroes die. I just hope Bill can get a game with Tommy. Heaven got another one of our very best. Until we meet again Bill RIP.

It is a gift and an honor to call Bill my father-in-law, my dad. He never missed a moment to remind me of how incredible our family is and how much he adored us all. He just made us all feel like we were on top of the world no matter what we did. His grandchildren lit up the moment he would arrive and he would not stop for a moment making sure they were all together every second. Every visit was filled with tons of laughs, tons of hugs, and hearing things like Connor you crazy turkey, Elisa your are beautiful and man this family is wonderful. He was guided by his entire heart with everything that he did and never missed a moment to build someone up around him. His kindness, humility and pure love were like no other and it was him through and through. It is an honor to be a Beverly and watch his passion grow on. You are truly missed dad!

Deepest condolences and thoughts go out to the Beverly Family from the Manchester family here in Sterling Oaks. We met Bill 24 years ago and found him to be one of the friendliest we have ever met. Through out our years here in Sterling Oaks he was our tennis pro and friend, he always remembered everyone’s name and always had a smile on his face. He was an asset to the Sterling Oaks tennis club. My father, brother and myself use to play tennis with him and it was always a great time playing doubles, such a positive influence, lots of laughs and good times, he will be missed dearly.

Bill was a one of a kind. Truly an amazing ambassador for the game of tennis and an ambassador for living life with a positive attitude. Always the promoter, always the guy that would lift you up and put a smile on your face and joy in your heart. You left the world a better place! I wonder if heaven’s clouds play as well as the clay – I guess you’re finding out.

The entire Naples tennis community lost a shining light of positivity. Bill was held a special place with our family and in my life personally. We moved to Naples in 1986 and he was one of the first people we met while living in Naples Bath & Tennis. It was meant to be, as he and my dad (Tom Manring) became fast friends and doubles partners. It was a sight to see watching two shorter, undersized guys beating up on team after team with grit, determination and intelligence. They were like two terriers working together on the tennis court. I was very young and impressionable and it left a lasting memory in my tennis psyche. Bill was always so kind to me as kid growing up in Naples…especially amongst an older demographic where that wasn’t always the case. No matter when, where or the circumstances behind our meetings over the next 30 + years…Bill was always smiling and excited to hear what I’ve been up to. He will be missed dearly.

All of the comments clearly describe the Bill we all knew and loved. Great ambassador for the game, great teacher, a winning player, great with name recognition, high energy promoter, great personality, etc., etc! I’ve know Bill for 36 years, played and practiced with him and worked with him when I directed the tennis academy at NTBC in its early years. Bill had his own condo and at the end of the day a new Bill Beverly would emerge. Often working 12 hour days, he of course, was ready to wind down but it was more than that. It was his passive or down time, time to be introspective, philosophical, and analytical with his great insights and knowledge in discussion of current events and world affairs. This other side of Bill maybe wasn’t as exciting or uplifting but I mention this because of this not so obvious side of his exceptionalism was just as likable and as powerful as his exuberant side. It was during these times of solitude and reflection that he could recharge and prepare for another of day of heart warming performance. I called him the Johnny Carson of tennis. I’ll miss you Bill.
